Meet at Big Bear Discovery Center at 10 a.m. We will start with a short Plant Identification how to at the Discovery Center before we go out to walk.

Enjoy the peak bloom in some of the special habitats of the Big Bear area, including pebble plains, vernal wetlands and the rare and sensitive species associated with them. We will drive to the Holcomb Valley area on the north side of Delemar Mountain. We will be walking along a road to avoid damaging sensitive plant habitats. Join us to search for purple monkey flower, shooting stars, and endangered plants on the pebble plains.

Bring your lunch, snacks, water, hat, sun protection, field guides, camera, comfortable shoes.

Our Native Engelmann Oaks: Update on a Long-term Study of Population Dynamics

Join us on November 20 beginning at 7 p.m. at the Riverside-Corona Resource Conservation District, Building F Conference Room (4500 Glenwood Drive, Riverside). The Western Riverside County Multiple Species Habitat Conservation Plan (MSHCP) includes regular surveys of covered plants and animals to monitor their health and persistence within conserved lands in the County. Diane Menuz will update us on the two main projects of the MSHCP botany program 1) Surveys to determine where our sensitive species are located and 2) a long-term study on population dynamics in Engelmann oak.
