Exciting New Alternatives!

An update of the latest new alternatives under consideration for restoring the Salton Sea.  Using virtual flyovers and state-of-the-technology geographic information systems,

LOCATION:
BLM office in Palm Springs 
690 W. Garnet Ave
just off the Interstate 10 freeway

Directions: Exit I-10 at Indian Ave., turn right (south) onto Indian Avenue. Turn right at the first signal onto Garnet Ave. There is a Wendy's truck stop on the NW corner and a Jack in the Box on the SW corner of Garnet. The BLM office is about 1/2 to 3/4 mile west on Garnet, (by itself) on the north side of Garnet.

Santa Monica Mountains: Malibu Creek State Park, a jewel of cultural and natural history such as the Pacific Coast bluffs, deep coastal canyons, and rugged cliffs and ridges. Join naturalist Christopher Stevenson on a 4.5 mile hike of this unique preserve. Transportation provided by RSABG.

Santa Monica Mountains: Rare Plants and Spring Annuals, an exploration of the diverse habitats and plants of this region, common and rare. Trek from coastal wetlands to canyon fern grottos from Malibu to Mulholland Dr, including various stages of fire recovery of Coastal Chaparal. Transportation provided by RSABG.

Flora of the Verdugo Mountains: An Urban Floristic Island. The Verdugo Mountains are an isolated wilderness island in the eastern San Fernando Valley, between the Santa Monica and San Gabriel Mountains and the I-5 and 210 Freeways. Undocumented since the 1930’s, they are under study by RSABG staff. Recent wildfires offer a study of chaparal fire recovery. Transportation provided by RSABG.

The Geology of the Santa Monica Mountains: A Collision of Tectonic Plates. Look into the geologic past of this small but complex coastal mountain range, discover how the Santa Monica Mountains differ from the other mountain ranges in the Transverse Range complex. Learn about a great firestorm 25,000 years ago that created a landscape of spectacular craggy volcanic rocks interspersed with fossil-bearing marine sediments. And finally find out just what are the “Goat Buttes” of Malibu Creek State Park! Transportation provided by RSABG.
