JULY MEETING NOTICE

Big Bear Summer Foray 
and 
Plant Identification Workshop

This was great fun last year and it will be again!

And join the after-lunch botanizing hikes in the area, offering possibilities of seeing rare and interesting plants, habitats, and birding!

Big Bear Municipal Water District Office

We’ll spend several hours honing our plant ID skills with local flora then venture out for a hike to look for lemon lilies (if it’s not too late) and other Big Bear botanical delights. Escape to the cool mountain climes with us. Take Hwy 18 (Big Bear Blvd) to Lakeview, which intersects Hwy 18 at two different intersections just NW of the Village. Either intersection will work. 

Bring lunch, water, sun protection, comfortable walking/hiking shoes, field stuff.

What’s In a Name: Does Spanish Moss Tell You Anything Useful? 

Speaker: Gary Wallace of US Fish and Wildlife Service.

Where do plant names come from and why do they always seem to change? Believe it or not, there are usually really good reasons and yet other times… And, if there is time Gary will be sleuthing the misnamed plant: Missions, Botanical Gardens, Sailing ships, Earthquake, War, etc.

Directions: >From the 91 Fwy, exit to downtown Riverside at 14th St. Proceed west on 14th (toward Mt Rubidoux,) and continue through Evergreen Cemetery. Turn left on Glenwood Dr, then left into the first gate to the parking lot.
