Please join us for a native plant propagation workshop at the beautiful Multi-Species Reserve at Lake Skinner. Several professional and highly skilled horticulturalists will share their knowledge about how to properly take cuttings from a variety of native plants, and how to propagate them.  There has been little written about this subject, so we will be lucky to learn some secret tricks of the trade!

The plants propagated at this workshop will be used in a new Native Plant Demonstration Garden and a habitat restoration project being planned at the Reserve, as well as for our Riverside/San Bernardino CNPS chapter plant sale. The vision for the demonstration garden is to provide an outdoor living classroom that will showcase the botanical treasures found on the reserve.

One inhabitant of the reserve, the Least Bell’s Vireo, a riparian obligate bird, is an endangered species.  Part of the effort of the workshop will concentrate on collecting and propagating plant materials which will be used to restore and enhance riparian habitat for this bird and the rest of the riparian dwellers!). This is a great opportunity to help the community, promote native plant and habitat education, while learning new horticultural skills.

We will meet at the Alamos Schoolhouse & Multi-Species Reserve Interpretive Center at Lake Skinner regional Park at 9:00 am sharp. Just after 9:00 am, we will head out to collect plant material. Please bring a sack lunch to enjoy at the picnic facilities at the reserve. We will be processing and propagating plant materials from late morning until we finish, sometime in the early afternoon. Please feel free to attend part or all of the workshop. Bring a pair of gloves, sharp garden clippers, and some 1 gallon zip-lock bags, if you have them available. Some extra gloves and clippers will be available for use. Sturdy hiking or work boots, plenty of water, a hat and sunscreen are highly recommended. Please note that there is a $2.00 per person day-use entry fee at Lake Skinner Recreation Area. The workshop is free. Hope to see you there!
