FEBRUARY CHAPTER MEETING Program: The Desert
Tortoise: The Importance of Food Preferences and Availability in Planning Recovery
Efforts. Explore the life of the
desert tortoise with noted tortoise expert Kristin Berry,
Ph.D., Research Scientist with the US Geological Survey, Western Ecological
Research Center. Her presentation will focus on tortoises, selectivity in
their diet, potential regional differences in food habits, and the importance
of maintaining a high quality food supply for them as part of recovery
efforts. This is a
great opportunity to learn more
about this endangered reptile and the native plants upon which it depends. Location: BLM
office in Palm Springs, 690 W. Garnet Ave (just off the Interstate 10 freeway.) Directions: Exit I-10 at Indian Ave., turn right (south) onto Indian
Avenue. Turn right at the first signal onto Garnet Ave. There is a Wendy's
truck stop on the NW corner and a Jack in the Box on the SW corner of Garnet.
The BLM office is about 1/2 to 3/4 mile west on Garnet, (by itself) on the
north side of Garnet. Saturday
March 4, 2006, SPRING CHAPTER COUNCIL MEETING AT RANCHO SANTA ANA BOTANIC
GARDEN JOIN US! Once again this spring, on CNPS representatives from
throughout the state will gather for the Chapter Council meeting at Rancho
Santa Ana Botanic Garden in Claremont. All CNPS members are welcome to
attend. This meeting is traditionally co-hosted by the Riverside/San
Bernardino and San Gabriel Mountains chapters of CNPS. That means us!

2006. Valley View High School’s Environmental Fair in Moreno Valley, CA on Thursday, In addition to the fair,
students in the school’s Environmental Conservation Organization are working
on developing a garden for use by classes throughout the curriculum which features

Saturday to March 19, Sunday Anza Borrego Desert State Park. Explore this desert wonderland and what we hope will be abundant
wildflowers brought on by fall rains. We will explore the Park and learn
desert plants and wildflowers at the best blooming spots. Mark your calendar, details to

grass with the eagerly blooming plants and the beautiful CNPS posters and
books. Get a kick out of schmoozing the browsing public and selling them not
only a gorgeous native plant but the CNPS message as well! Suffer through
free admission to the EXPO and endure a location close to all the other
exhibits, craft stalls, and food vendors. Contend with fellow CNPS’rs over
